KTN Valves is a Spanish industrial valve manufacturer with its own plant in Rubí, Barcelona. An industrial valve opens, closes, throttles or blocks the return of fluid inside a pipeline. KTN manufactures six families (ball, butterfly, globe, gate, check and control) in AISI 316 stainless steel, carbon steel and forged steel, with stock and a certificate of origin.

What industrial valves are and what they do

An industrial valve controls flow through a closure member that either rotates or travels linearly. It performs four duties: on/off isolation, throttling, diversion or mixing, and non-return protection. The duty decides the family. Ball and butterfly valves are quarter-turn and close with a 90° rotation, so they handle fast isolation. Gate and globe valves use a rising stem: the gate leaves a clear bore with almost no pressure drop, the globe throttles flow without eroding its seat. A check valve closes on its own as soon as flow reverses. Above DN100 the butterfly valve replaces the ball valve on weight and cost; in small bore, ball valves dominate.

Valve types we manufacture

KTN manufactures six valve families and completes the line with automation, instrumentation and pipeline accessories.

  • Ball valves: quarter-turn isolation in 1, 2 and 3-piece bodies, full or reduced bore, 3-way L/T port, soft PTFE or metal seats, plus the PFA lined KTN 123T series.
  • Butterfly valves: wafer, lug and double flanged bodies, EPDM, NBR, viton or PTFE liners, disc in stainless steel, ductile iron or aluminium bronze.
  • Globe valves: throttling duty in class 800 forged steel to API 602 and in cast steel.
  • Gate valves: full isolation with solid or flexible wedge, rising (OS&Y) or non-rising stem, API 600 and API 602 design.
  • Check valves: non-return protection in piston, swing and dual plate wafer designs to API 594 and API 6D.
  • Control valves: needle and high-pressure valves for fine flow and pressure regulation.
  • Valve automation: single and double acting pneumatic actuators, electric actuators, NAMUR 3/2 and 5/2 solenoid valves and ATEX limit switch boxes.
  • Instrumentation: bimetallic thermometers from −80 °C to +550 °C, stainless Bourdon tube gauges and pressure transmitters.
  • Industrial accessories: Y strainers, expansion joints, sight glasses and safety spray shields for flanges.

Materials and seats

KTN machines bodies in AISI 316 and 316L stainless steel, WCB carbon steel, A105 and F316 forged steel, bronze, PVC and PP, plus PFA and PTFE lined executions for corrosive media such as the KTN 123T lined ball valve. Seat selection follows temperature and fluid aggressiveness: PTFE and reinforced PTFE for general service, pentafite for demanding duty, EPDM, silicone and NBR in elastomer, and lapped metal-to-metal for class VI shut-off to ANSI/FCI 70-2. Food contact ranges ship in 316L with an Ra 0.8 µm polish, abrasive ranges with stellite hard facing.

End connections and standards

KTN supplies BSP thread (ISO 228 and EN 10226), NPT thread (ASME B1.20.1), socket weld and butt weld ends (ASME B16.11 and B16.25), ANSI B16.5 class 150-300 flanges, DIN EN 1092-1 PN10-PN40 flanges, wafer and lug bodies, double flanged bodies and sanitary clamp ends. Designs follow API 600 and 602 for gate valves, API 6D and 594 for check valves, API 609 for butterfly valves and API 607 or 6FA for fire-safe service. How to select an industrial valve

Selection always follows this order of decision.

  • Duty: on/off isolation (ball, butterfly, gate), throttling (globe, control) or non-return.
  • End connection: thread in small bore, ANSI or DIN flange for maintenance access, welded ends for high pressure, wafer or clamp when space or hygiene rules.
  • Material: 316 stainless for corrosion, WCB carbon steel for general service, forged steel for high pressure and temperature, PFA lining for acids.
  • Pressure and temperature: PN10-PN40, class 150-300 or class 800, with the seat as the real thermal limit.
  • Seat: PTFE for general service, elastomer for water and air, metal-to-metal for zero leakage and abrasion.
  • Automation: confirm operating torque to size the actuator on the ISO 5211 interface.

KTN supplies industrial valves to petrochemical, chemical, oil & gas, power, steam and thermal oil, water treatment and desalination, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, pulp and paper, mining, marine and HVAC plants. Which valve should I use for throttling and which for isolation?

Use a globe or a control valve for throttling, because the closure member approaches the seat progressively and holds a stable flow. Use ball, butterfly or gate valves for isolation. Throttling with a gate valve erodes the seat and causes disc vibration, so it should only run fully open or fully closed.

What materials and certificates does KTN supply?
